We have had a change at the Oystercatcher;
My name is Tony and along with my business partner Andrew (plus Max the black Labrador) have taken over the Oystercatcher from Ken and Jo.
Since we moved in on the 7th July we have met many local people and lots of regular visitors and hopefully made some new friends. Almost everyone we have talked to has expressed curiosity about us and our intentions for the business but as we have taken over at a very busy time this is the first opportunity I have had to update the website.
We have been business partners for almost 30 years starting in Cornwall where we had a small hotel and then for the last 15years we have been in private service working all over the world for very wealthy employers.
Andrew is a fully qualified chef who prefers to cook the more traditional dishes with his own style and flair and believes in using locally sourced products to their best advantage. I also have a few certificates but the most important thing is, can I keep the beer well and keep everything organised? Time will tell.
As for our plans, everyone we have spoken to has had an opinion and we have tried to take on board everything that has been said. We were very aware when coming into an existing business that many people make sweeping changes immediately and then wonder why they lose all of their existing customers, so we have taken the approach of changing nothing and keeping the existing staff and menu until the end of the summer before making any firm decisions.
We are also very aware that although we are English the Oystercatcher is and always will be Scottish.
At the end of the summer we would have hoped to stay open throughout the autumn and winter but we need to do work in several areas including the kitchens and restaurant, so we will almost certainly close for a period, possibly opening at weekends, but we will let you all know via the website about this nearer the time.
We will almost certainly be open for Christmas and New Year and next season we would hope to offer variations on the existing menu both in the bar and restaurant but we will still be using all the excellent local suppliers we do now and carrying on the fine quality and service that our predecessors have strived for.
As for Ken, Jo and the boys they have moved on to new projects and we wish them well, although they are still very much around and may be seen on occasion sitting outside with glass in hand.
Watch this space for further updates and if you haven’t already, come and say hello to us and of course Max.
